Bastien Sanpharo is not a man who expected to matter. A historian in Dublin, he’s spent years burying himself in the past while his own life quietly passed him by. But when an inexplicable pull draws him to the ancient monastic ruins of Glendalough, he stumbles upon something he was never meant to see. Something that sees him in return.

Before he can make sense of it, Bastien is torn from Earth and into Sylfaen, a realm where magic shapes reality and the past doesn’t stay buried. Here, the Arsídh (an ageless people whose power is woven into the world’s foundations) recognize something impossible in him and see a purpose for him. The militant Krypteia see an opportunity to shift the balance of power in a world already straining under the weight of old grievances.

As factions vie for control over his fate, Bastien is forced to confront a chilling possibility: his life may never have been his own to begin with.
